On April 23, 2013 twenty five thousand World Book Night book givers went out into 5,800 communities throughout America, from Florida to Alaska, and put great books in the hands of new or reluctant readers. It was an extraordinary cultural event. World Book Night is an annual celebration dedicated to spreading the love of reading, person to person.

April 29 – May 9, 2013

Thousands of area children will be coming to the library for their Spring RIF book distribution.
They will see a 15-20 minute puppet show and then choose a book to keep.
We need volunteers to read their new books to them.
The distribution times are 9:00, 9:50, 12:15, and 1:05. You may sign up (or just show up) for as many time slots as you would like!
Just pick the times that fit your schedule and come share the joy of reading with a child. J

In observance of Black History Month 2013, Franklin Memorial Library is sponsoring an African-American History Art and Poetry Exhibit. Local artists and poets are encouraged to submit a work of art or poetry depicting events relating to the Emancipation Proclamation or the March on Washington. This marks the 150th year anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and the 5oth Anniversary of the March on Washington. The Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys is a collection of books, films, and other resources that will introduce the American public to the complex history and culture of Muslims in the United States and around the world. The Statesboro Regional Library is pleased to announce that Betty Smith Franklin will lead a writer’s workshop in creative nonfiction beginning Thursday, January 17, 2013. Creative nonfiction is the exploration of fact using the craft of literature.  The creative nonfiction genre examines real people, places, and events through evocative, surprising language and unique voice.  The various forms of creative nonfiction include personal essay, memoir, and literary journalism.
