The Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys is a collection of books, films, and other resources that will introduce the American public to the complex history and culture of Muslims in the United States and around the world. This year’s holiday season at the Statesboro Library is filled with fun for all ages! Children can drop by to write and mail their letters to Santa Claus. For teens and tweens ages 12 and up a holiday jewelry workshop is planned for Monday evening, Dec. 10 from 5:30 – 7 PM. This Fall, the Statesboro Regional Library will be welcoming local musician and teacher, Dr. Michael Braz, who will will share his musical world with interested students in Music Makers. Open to ages 10 – 14, the six weekly 45-minute workshops will introduce participants to both common and uncommon musical instruments, while teaching the basic building blocks of music in a relaxed setting. Magical Educator Chad Crews will be performing his program “I Dream of Reading Extravaganza!” at the Statesboro Regional Library on Thursday, June 7 at 10:30 AM. The “I Dream of Reading Extravaganza!” is part of the Summer Reading Program, which takes place in public libraries all over the U.S. during the summer months. Chad’s program contains a combination of magic, storytelling, music, and live animals. It showcases several books used in developing the different routines used in the show. On Thursday evening, March 1, at 7 PM the Statesboro Regional Library will ring with music, celebrating the birthday of the legendary Dr. Seuss and kicking off a group of special enrichment programs designed and presented by our very own music legend, Dr. Michael Braz. The library and the community lost a dear friend earlier this week when Tip, one of the area’s most devoted and best loved therapy dogs, died suddenly of cancer. Her friend and handler, Leslie Sprando, sadly confirmed that Tip was diagnosed with lymphoma and died following surgery on Wednesday, February 1. She was only 10 years old.  Tip was a beautiful border collie whose registered name was CH Wagons ho Frenzy CD, OA, NAJ, RAE. On February 9th at 7:00pm the Statesboro Public Library will be welcoming author Ted Dunagan for a presentation and signing of his books.  Ted Dunagan was named a Georgia Author of the Year in 2009 for his debut novel A Yellow Watermelon and again in 2011 for his second book.Secret of the Satilfa. Written for youth, these books speak to adults as well. In the best Southern literary tradition, they explore poverty and racial segregation through the eyes of two twelve-year-old friends. The third in the series, Trouble on the Tombigbee, was published in 2011. …
