Richmond Hill Library
Position Title: Custodian
Classification: FLSA non-exempt, up to 10 hrs/week
Reports to: Library Manager
Statesboro Regional Library System requires a criminal background check whenever a job offer has been made and accepted by an individual. This documentation must be on file prior to employment. We are a Drug Free Workplace. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

The Custodian is responsible for the regular cleaning and light maintenance needed by the Bryan County Library in Richmond Hill. The Custodian also works closely with the staff to prepare the building for Library-sponsored programs and events and will be working around library patrons. The custodian is under the supervision of the Library Manager and Assistant Manager. The custodian is expected to be dependable and not require close supervision. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS The description of tasks is not intended to outline every last detail of the custodian’s position. It will serve to give a general impression of the duties relating to the job. Each Day of Work: • empty interior and exterior trash and replace bin liners • clean all bathroom mirrors, toilets and sinks in public and staff restrooms • replenish kitchen and bathroom paper supplies and soap as needed • walk through Library and around building exterior looking for trash or other issues Weekly: • vacuum all carpeted areas • sweep and mop kitchen and bathroom floors • clean kitchen sinks and wipe down counters • check Community room for trash and vacuum if needed • dust visible staff counters, tables and desks (not expected to move papers or other items) Monthly: • dust shelves and cabinets • clean lower windows and doors at both entrances As Needed: • remove recyclable paper and cardboard • handle recycling • assist staff with donations • spot clean carpet or upholstery • clean staff area counters, tables and desks after they remove all papers and items • clean all interior and exterior windows • alert Library Manager about problems such as leaks, graffiti or repair needs. • assist supply order for cleaning supplies and stock for bathrooms and kitchen areas • assist staff with seasonal decorations • prepare community room for Library sponsored programs by setting up or removing chairs and tables REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and/or Experience Access to a reliable means of transportation Knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment, and the ability to use them economically and efficiently. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions in the English language. Agree to submit to a background check and have results that meet the expectations of the employer. PHYSICAL SKILLS Ability to safely use cleaning materials and equipment typically used in custodial work.. Ability to lift and move up to forty (40) pounds and push one hundred (100) pounds, occasionally Ability to climb ladders if needed. TRAINING, SUPERVISION, AND EVALUATION The Custodian is trained and supervised by the Library Manager and the Assistant Library Manager. This employee must be able to take direction from and work with all library staff members. The Custodian will also have daily interactions with the public as part of the Library’s staff. Annual evaluation and review of the Custodian’s performance is provided by the Library Manager WORKING CONDITIONS Majority of work performed in general office and library environment Requires some flexibility in hours Some projects may require evenings or Saturdays Open until filled.

Position Title: Library Assistant I
Evans County Public Library – Claxton
Classification: FLSA non-exempt, up to 17 hrs/week
Reports to: Library Manager
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
The Library Assistant I is responsible for a variety of tasks in providing services to the library’s patrons. This position assists library management in the day-to-day operation of the library. The levels of responsibility vary according to each library’s staffing. The Library Assistant is guided by policies formulated by regional and local library boards and administered by the Statesboro Regional Public Libraries. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS • Works at service desks to provide patron services and support • Shelves materials and keeps collection in order • Provides computer assistance to patrons • Assists with the coordination and planning of library programming • Assists with publicity and promotion of Library and its services • Assists in the operation and maintenance of the library building • Provides secretarial support to library management • Prepares reports and other duties as assigned • Attends staff development workshops REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and/or Experience • High school degree or equivalent required. • Agree to submit to a background check and have results that meet the expectations of the employer Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Skill in meeting and working with the public • Attention to detail; ability to follow direction and complete assignments • Good computer and communication skills • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use tact and diplomacy working with the public and co-workers • Ability to meet the schedule of the job, including nights and Saturdays, where applicable • Ability to understand, interpret and apply library regulations and policies, with guidance from library management • Ability to travel to headquarters and other library locations for required meetings • Ability to maintain a satisfactory (good/average) or higher rating in annual performance evaluation PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Library Experience • Access to a reliable means of personal transportation PHYSICAL SKILLS • Ability to sit or stand and use computer for extended periods and operate standard office equipment, daily • Ability to lift and move up to forty (40) pounds and push one hundred (100) pounds, occasionally • Ability to travel by automobile TRAINING, SUPERVISION, AND EVALUATION The Library Assistant is trained, supervised and evaluated by the Library Manager and Assistant Manager with guidance from the Assistant Director of Affiliated Libraries. Use of the library catalog and circulation software is primarily learned from fellow staff members. The Library Assistant is responsive to directions from the Library Manager and Assistant Manager. Formal evaluation and review of the Library Assistant’s performance is provided by the Library Manager. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
The Circulation Assistant I is a member of the department responsible for daily operations of the Circulation Department at the Statesboro-Bulloch County Library. The Circulation Assistant I is responsible for a variety of tasks in providing services to the Library’s patrons. This position assists library management in the day-to-day operation of the Library. Responsibilities may include supervision of volunteers. The Circulation Assistant I is guided by policies formulated by regional and local library boards and administered by the Statesboro Regional Public Libraries. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
The Youth Services Clerk assists with the day-to-day operation of the Youth Services Department of the Statesboro-Bulloch County Library. This department serves library users of all ages, from infants to adults. Clerks work at the service desk, shelve materials, keep the area in order, provide computer assistance, and help users find library materials. Clerks also assist with youth programming including story hours, youth adult programs, RIF, and the Vacation Reading Program. All staff members are guided by policies formulated by regional and local library boards and administered by the Statesboro Regional Public Libraries. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS • Works at service desks to provide services and support to library users • Shelves materials and keeps collection in order • Provides computer assistance to library users • Assists in the operation and maintenance of the library building • Assists with the planning, coordination and presentation of library programs • Completes other duties as assigned • Attends staff development workshops REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Knowledge of children’s and young adult literature • Library Experience • Access to a reliable means of personal transportation PHYSICAL SKILLS • Ability to sit or stand and use computer for extended periods and operate standard office equipment, daily • Ability to stoop, bend and reach, repeatedly • Ability to lift and move up to forty (40) pounds and push one hundred (100) pounds, occasionally • Ability to travel by automobile TRAINING, SUPERVISION, AND EVALUATION The Youth Services Clerk is trained by co-workers and is supervised by the Head of Youth Services. Use of the library catalog and circulation software is primarily learned from fellow staff members. The Clerk is responsive to directions from the Head of Youth Services, who also provides formal evaluation and performance reviews.
