About The Brannen Room (At the Statesboro Library)
There are over 8,000 genealogical books, magazines, and bound periodicals & journals available in the genealogy department for research. Sections with dedicated books and information are provided for Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. Bulloch County obituaries from the 1970’s to present day can be found. Over 250 genealogy books are offered to be checked out to aid with how to research. We are a FamilySearch Affiliate Library and have two computers in the Microfilm Room dedicated for genealogical research. A digital microfilm reader/scanner is also available. State and county maps for different periods are on display and in the map files.

Research Requests

How we can help
Regional Genealogist, Lillian Wingate, can assist in directing you to genealogical resources available at the Statesboro Regional Public Libraries, provide guides on how to conduct various genealogical research or navigate genealogical databases and websites, and check the library’s collection for books or family files. She cannot undertake extensive research.

For in-depth research assistance, a list of researchers for hire is available on the Georgia Genealogical Society website and Association of Professional Genealogists website.

Guidelines on Research Assistance
For obituaries, articles, family files, public history files, microfilm lookups, and print publications:
· Limit of 3 requests per month from an individual. A request can have no more than 3 items of information requested.
-Must be able to provide: 1) the name of the individual, 2) birth & death date estimates, and 3) the location/s the individual lived.
· Please be specific in your requests. List what precisely you are looking for or hoping to find, and include citations whenever possible.
· If you would like to send in more than 3 requests in a month, please include a $10 donation to the Genealogy Department for each additional request.
· Please allow up to 3 weeks for requests to be fulfilled, unless otherwise noted.

Appointments
Lillian will have time available for appointments on Thursday and Friday, unless she is taking or teaching other classes.
· Appointments can last up to 1 hour, but no longer. Please send questions ahead of your appointment or bring a short list of questions with you with all information you already have.
· If you are 15 minutes late for an appointment and do not give notification, your appointment will be canceled.
· If you miss 3 scheduled appointments without notice, you will not be able to schedule another appointment for 3 months.
· If you cancel or reschedule more than 3 appointments in a row, you will have to wait a full month to reschedule again.

Genealogy Classes
At least 2 genealogy classes will be offered every month at the Statesboro Library. Classes will also be offered at each library throughout the year. Classes are normally listed in the newspaper, on the library’s monthly calendar, on the library’s website, and on social media.

Library Cards

Statesboro Regional Public Libraries participates in PINES, a statewide circulation system. Your library card, which must be presented each time you borrow materials, may be used at 300 Georgia libraries. All cards are FREE, and are available to all residents of Georgia. Patrons of non-participating Georgia public libraries may receive a card from any PINES library. Persons who attend school, own property or are employed in Georgia are also eligible for a free card. Current I.D. must be shown at the time of registration. Property owners who do not reside in the state may be required to show proof of ownership. Proof of school enrollment or employment within the state may also be required.

Out-of-state cards are available to persons living outside Georgia who do not meet the above criteria for a $25 annual fee.

There is no minimum age for a child to receive a PINES card.

A parent or legal guardian may register a child. Parent or legal guardian must show proper ID to register a child. A parent or legal guardian must sign the application for all children under 18. Signing a child’s PINES card application denotes acceptance of responsibility for all fines, lost or damaged materials.
