Our Services > Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan refers to the lending of materials between libraries which are not part of the PINES system. If PINES does not have the material you need, we can attempt to borrow through the ILL system. We try to locate a library that owns the material and ask that library to lend it to us. Then we can lend it to you. We cannot borrow any audio visual material through ILL (only books omit comma and photocopies of magazine articles).

Anyone with a current SRLS library card can place an ILL. While the service is free, some libraries may require reimbursement for shipping. Most loans are free, but if there are shipping charges we will let you know. When the material arrives, we will inform you by telephone. You may pick up the item(s) at the circulation desk of the library you specify in your request.

We make every effort to fill your request; however, we may be unable to obtain your material because:

  • no other library has purchased it
  • the materials is in heavy demand
  • the material is rare or a limited edition
  • the material is a reference work and cannot be loaned
  • the material was published within the last 12 months

Items may be requested by submitting an electronic request or stopping by the circulation desk of the Regional Library or any of our affiliate libraries. Requests may take two weeks or longer to fill. Please check to see if an item is available through PINES before making an ILL request.
