Presently there are approximately 35 tutors working with 40 students. In addition, the GED class has around 10 students enrolled. Volunteer tutors are trained and certified at workshops held periodically throughout the year and are then placed with students who have the same time available. Most students and tutors meet one-on-one, but there are a few small groups. The Laubach curriculum is a structured, sequential method of teaching basic reading and writing up through approximately 7th grade level. After completing the Laubach Way To Reading (LWR) Series, students are referred to the GED Program, which is offered at the library through cooperation with Ogeechee Technical College. All of these services are FREE to the public! The next volunteer tutor training workshop will be in Feb. Prospective students and/or tutors may call Elaine McDuffie @ 764-1345 for Info.
