Youth Programs at the Statesboro Library

The library offers a wide range of fun and educational programs for youth, ages 0-18. All library programs are free! Please refer to this month’s Youth and Family Services calendar on our library’s Program Calendar for updated program dates and times.

STORYTIMES:

The Youth and Family Services Department holds several different storytimes, for different age groups:

• Babytime is designed for ages 0-2. The program uses stories, rhymes, songs and music to provide quality interaction time for babies and caregivers, and to build early literacy skills.
• Toddler Time is designed for ages 2-5. Young ones and their caregivers can join us for a 30-minute session full of stories, songs, movement, and early literacy activities.
• Family Storytime is designed for families and children of all ages. Stop in for exciting stories, followed by music, activities and/or crafts.
• Spanish Storytime is designed for Spanish-language speakers, as well as those who want their children to experience other languages. Stop in for a quick story, typically for the preschool and early elementary age!

Note: Toddler Time and Babytime classrooms have limited space, so we ask that daycares or schools that want to attend a storytime at the library contact us to schedule their own event. See our Outreach and Educational Services page for more details.

OTHER PROGRAMS:

Breakfast with Santa

One of our largest events of the year, this program gives our young patrons and their parents a chance to eat breakfast, make crafts, and visit with Santa. Each child leaves with a free book, and photo opportunities are available. Space is limited for this free event, and sign up usually begins in early December.

 Eagle Time

Georgia Southern students volunteering with the Serve912 program will be on hand to help kids in grades K-6 with their homework after school on most Mondays and Wednesdays, from 3:30-5:30pm. See the calendar for a complete schedule.

 Homeschool Programs

The library works with a local Homeschooling group to provide space for homeschooled students to come together and learn. For a full list of what homeschool programs are currently planned, check out the current month’s calendar.

 Kids Programs

The library offers an ever-changing list of programs for ages 6-12, including STEM Days, Superhero Saturdays, Bingo, Lego Club, Art Night, Anime Day, Dungeons & Dragons, Family Game Night, and more. To see what is currently being offered, check out the current calendar.

 Reading to Rover

On the third Monday of each month, the Statesboro Therapy Dogs visit the library to give new and developing readers the chance to practice reading aloud. The dogs are well-behaved and very good listeners!

 Teen Advisory Group (TAG)

Teens in the Teen Advisory Group form our core group of young volunteers. They meet monthly to advise the library on which materials and programs are of interest to them, and often plan and lead programs of their own. Students who earn enough volunteer hours are invited to a special TAG lock-in each spring. TAG is open to students between the ages of 12-18, and meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 5:30pm in the Teen Activity Room.

 Teen Anime & Manga Club

Teens between the ages of 12-18 can get together twice each month to talk about their love of anime and manga. At each session, students enjoy a new anime episode, activities, and snacks. No sign up is required – new members can drop in to any meeting.

Tutoring with Restoring the Breach

Free Math and English Language Arts tutoring is provided during the school year through the local non-profit organization, Restoring the Breach. Tutors are available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 5:30-7:00pm. Parents and caregivers must remain in the library while students are being tutored.
